Rock and roll used to be about plugging in, turning up and letting go, but as rock has aged and changed that simple formula seems to have been forgotten for the most part. Unless you ask KING KARMA, a band fast becoming one of the most talked about new groups in the current resurgence of rock music!
Built upon the solid foundations provided by rhythm section TODD RONNING (bass) and RICK FEDYK (drums), KING KARMA's music is a gorgeous amalgamation of hard rock guitar riffs and introspective acoustic passages. Guitarist, MARKUS WOLFE succeeds, where many more famous names have failed, in that he plays with true feel and purely for the song, rather than simply to show his undoubted technical ability. To round out the line-up there's vocalist SHAUN WILLIAMSON, a man with more soul and raw emotion in his voice than a recording studio full of Boy Band Wannabes and Pop Idol hopefuls.
SHAUN'S vocal talents were discovered early on by the late Lynrd Skynyrd bassist, Leon Wilkeson. When singer Ronnie Hammond left the Atlanta Rhythm Section, it was Leon's endorsement that got Shaun the audition with the band. Barely out of his teens, SHAUN found himself in front of 70,000 people at Atlanta's Fulton County Stadium as the new lead singer of Atlanta Rhythm Section.
After a three year stint with Atlanta Rhythm Section, and looking to broaden his musical horizons, Shaun headed overseas to Germany where he formed BACKBONE SLIDE, a band managed by legendary Rolling Stones manager, Andrew Loog Oldham. They released two albums on Mausoleum Records and toured Europe and the U.K opening for - among others - Mother's Finest and Saxon.
Remaining in Germany after Backbone Slide's demise SHAUN was featured on a Moody Blues multi-artist recording featuring the Moodies' very own Justin Hayward, Michael Sadler of Saga, and a full symphony orchestra. He also enjoyed notable success in Europe with his Sunnyland Bluesband who recorded three outstanding albums and climbed to #3 on the American Blues charts with their song "Run for Cover". They played all of the major European blues festivals and often toured with such luminaries of the genre such as the Fabulous Thunderbirds, John Mayall, Johnny Winter and B.B. King, to name just a few.
On his return to the United States, Shaun was approached by KING KARMA bassist; TODD RONNING, whose band at the time was backing PAUL RODGERS, and was looking to find a bluesy rock vocalist on the same level with RODGERS to strike out on their own. Not long after their first phone call, Shaun flew north from Atlanta to Vancouver, Canada to join the band - KING KARMA was born! The group immediately began writing the songs for what became their critically acclaimed debut album: MAMA'S PRIDE.
The group's fresh approach to rock music's most influential time in history garnered the attention of the "Original Swamper," legendary producer Jimmy Johnson, who flew the guys back to Muscle Shoals, Alabama and recorded the quartet's awe-inspiring debut at the infamous 3614 Jackson Hwy studio. His past credits including the Rolling Stones and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnson is the stuff legends are made of, and he even goes so far as to say that the KING KARMA debut is the best rock album he's worked on since Lynyrd Skynyrd back in the 70's.
By the time the group's official web site has surpassed one million hits, two KING KARMA tracks were featured in the Lions Gate Films sci-fi movie "Bloodsuckers".
In the summer of 2007 KING KARMA performed at select music festivals opening for such rock legends as, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Nazareth and Cheap Trick. The group's successful string of shows would include a trip to the World Famous Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota, where KING KARMA opened for Kid Rock, the reunited James Gang and Blue Oyster Cult to name a few...
MAMA'S PRIDE was released on the band's own Centurion Records label in Canada, and is now set for worldwide release on Mausoleum Records, on May 23, 2008. KING KARMA is currently writing new material and looking forward to touring again in 2008!
